Project #1: The Man He Killed
This project was completed by Lexi Martin in the fall of 2014. For this assignment, students were asked to analyze a poem and create an image that represented 3 essential themes from the poem. This group analyzed "The Man He Killed" by Thomas Hardy. The gun represents the destruction of war, the American and German flags represent Nationalism, and the shaking hands represent shared humanity.
Project #2: "Dropaganda"
This project was also done during our WWI unit. Students were asked to create an egg drop contraption and a propaganda video to advertise their product. Competitors were chosen based on the quality of their propaganda videos. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Bustle, Mrs. Dowling, and I also competed with our own contraption, and we won during all three of our blocks! Below are pictures from the egg drop along with a student sample propaganda video. After the competition, the 10th grade English classes combined to have a group discussion about the effects of propaganda and how it was used to sway people during the war.

Project 3: Hope Video
Though the Hope video itself was not a project grade, it was a station activity in our Holocaust Museum, which counted as a test grade. As a teacher, the hope videos are one of my favorite things to watch: One, because I love music, and two, because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Click the button below to see one of my favorite student hope videos.

Project 4: "The Sniper" Song Project
This project was completed by my 10th grade students in fall of 2015. For this project, students had to create a song based upon a short story of their choice using literary elements. Here is a link to their music video as well as their labelled lyrics.

Project 5: Real Time Trial
For the novel, Real Time, students participated in a mock trial in which they had to determine whether the main character, Sameh Laham, is guilty of murder in the first degree. Different students completed different assignments depending on their role in the activity. Below are links to some of their final products.
Project 6: "The Dove"
This project hails from my Honors Math III class taken with Mrs. Trahan. The assignment was pretty simple in that we were required to create an image with a theme of "stained glass" using a certain number of each conic section to assemble it. I got it into my head that I would produce a dove, and from there the image above was born. I worked for several hours on this, and even produced a colorized printed version because I enjoyed it so much. The colorized image showed the top background around the bird (split into sort of triangular sections) as varying shades of yellow, while the background under the cloud was comprised of varying shades of blue. The exception is the little area of background immediately behind the house, which was colored yellow to represent a little sun beam sneaking through the clouds. This took a lot of time graphing and regraphing and was really a lot of fun, so I am proud of it.
